15 wineries participating in the Catalan Wine and Spirits Fair in Hong Kong

Tarragona. Costa Dorada. The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Food and Natural Environment, through the public company Catalan Export Promoter (PRODECA), organizes the participation of companies in the wine sector in Hong Kong Wine and Spirits Fair, which will take place from 3 to 5 November 2011. A total of 15 Catalan wineries will participate with the presentation of vermouth, muscat, wine Appellations of Origin (DO) Catalonia, Costers del Segre, Empordà, Penedès, Pla de Bages, Priorat Qualified Designation of Origin, and Cava . This year marks the fourth edition of this annual event, a highlight event for this sector in Asia, which includes the visit of 15,000 professionals in that region. Hong Kong is one of 20 financial centers in the world, and the distribution point of reference in Asia for wine, since it is the only country in the world to eliminate taxes for wine and set the tariff zero. It is also the traditional door entry to mainland China, and a platform for distribution and sale of beverages in Asia. Each year, imports of wine to Hong Kong increased by 20%, however in 2010 these imports increased by 44%. You should also bear in mind that Hong Kong has produced wine, which favors the increase of imports of wine in that country.
