Salou. Costa Dorada. 19 May 2024.
Salou takes another step to improve services as a Pet-Friendly tourism destination and from 2024 it offers a beach for dogs and pets in the middle of the summer season, since until now pets could only access the beach in winter.
Specifically, from June 1, Salou will offer a space for dogs and pets on Ponent beach. It will be 46 meters wide and 38 meters deep, with an area of 1785.27 m2.
How the dog beach will work
The area will be subject to rules and schedules and separated with physical elements from the rest of the beach for users without dogs. Dogs considered dangerous breeds must be muzzled and leashed both outside and in the water, as well as in public spaces in general.
Regarding maintenance, the City Council guarantees daily manual cleaning of the sand, in the space designated for dogs, as well as the surroundings and accesses. This action will complement the daily mechanical cleaning, screening, which will be done at night. In addition, periodic controls will be carried out on the quality of the sand and water.
To complement the implementation of the dog area on Ponent beach, the City Council will modify the municipal ordinances. The creation of this space for pets is inspired by models from other European countries such as France.
