Bonfires and festivals of Sant Joan 2024 on the beach

Poster of Sant Joan festival 2024 in Salou

Salou. Costa Dorada. 15 June 2024. Nothing better than starting the summer by celebrating the solstice of this time of year on the beach, with a good Sant Joan bonfire and a party that combines tradition and festivals. If you are looking for this complete pack, come to Salou and enjoy a magical weekend.

The festival of Sant Joan 2024 in Salou will begin on Friday, June 21 with an akelarre of the Latemó witches, who are celebrating 20 years. At 10:15 p.m. the Correfoc will leave from different points on Passeig Jaume I to the Plaza de las Comunitats Autònomes, where at 11 p.m. the gathering and the “cremating” of the pots containing papers with wishes and bad omens will be held. “Collles” of witches from different Catalan municipalities will participate.

On Sunday, June 23, at 8:15 p.m., the Flama del Canigó will arrive in Salou with which the bonfires of Sant Joan will be lit later. The Flama will be picked up by the pubilles and the hereu from Salou, who will go on the tourist train, accompanied by the Barenys Moto Club association, the Diables Maleïts, the Bruixes Latemó, the Xaloc and the Morena. Together they will transport the flame to the Plaza de las Comunitats Autònomes around 9 p.m.

At this moment the cauldron will be lit and the message of Sant Joan will be read, and the sardana Salou Ciutat Pubilla will be danced. Whoever can write a wish and put it inside the cauldron, as a ritual so that it can be fulfilled in the following months.

At 10 p.m. the bonfire will be lit on Ponent beach, in the part closest to the Espigó del Moll, and then there will be a pyrotechnic show and youth festival starting at 11 p.m.

For its part, in the Plaza de las Comunitats Autònomes, also at 11 p.m., the La Fania orchestra will entertain a great popular festival.

If you choose to bathe in the sea after midnight as a ritual so that luck is with you during the next 12 months, enjoy your nighttime bath with caution.

In Salou, as in all the towns and cities of Catalonia, fire is an essential element of the festival and especially of the San Juan festival. That is why it is important to remember some basic safety tips to enjoy bonfires, correfocs and rockets or firecrackers safely. We also offer you tips to protect your pets if they are scared by the noise of fireworks.
