Salou. Costa Dorada. 09 December 2022. Eight international artists will be in charge of erecting on constructions in sand on the beach of La Pineda in the traditional Pesebre de Arena (Sand Manger). This edition will feature the history of Art. The artist come from Denmark, Latvia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, the Czech Republic and also from Catalonia, shape the arena to obtain a unique and different sculptural group year after year, which in this edition pays homage to art, through a journey through its most representative stages: from prehistory to the abstract art of our times.
The imposing sculptures will occupy about 200 m2 of surface. To raise them, almost 300 m3 of sand will be used, which means working with 400 tons of sand to recreate these nativity scenes.
The Belén de Arena has been organized since 2000 and arouses the interest of adults and children alike. Every year it is visited by more than 25,000 people who come to the Parque del Pinar de Peluquet to discover the characters that are hidden.
Next to the nativity scene, various Christmas-themed family activities are carried out to enjoy this villa-dry tradition. This year several Christmas concerts, stories and puppets are planned on the banks of Bethlehem. Thus, on Sunday, December 4, the Contes de Nadal children's show took place, and yesterday, Tuesday, Sons de Gòspel offered a Christmas carol concert.
Tomorrow, Thursday, December 8, it will be the Rociero Arena del Camino Choir who, starting at 12:00, will entertain the morning with a Christmas concert.
On Saturday, December 10, at 12:00 noon, adults and children will enjoy the family show Otra carta a los Reyes, by the Cía. Chip Chap. On Sunday, December 11, starting at 12 noon, you can enjoy a swing Christmas carol concert by the jazz music group Jordi Sans feat Joni Witzi Trio.
On Saturday, December 17, the Cantaires de la Pineda choir will offer a Christmas carol concert starting at 12:00 noon and on Sunday, December 18, the Cía. The Invisible awaits you with his puppet show La Rateta Christmas.
This year, together with the sculptures, the Royal Haima of Their Majesties the Magi from the East will be reinstalled. It will be on Saturday, December 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., when the boys and girls will be able to deliver their letters. The Haima will also be located in Vila-seca, on December 23, 24, 26, 29 and 30, and in La Plana, on December 18.
