Monday, November 21, begins the 47th edition of the Squid Festival

Squid Festival

Salou. Costa Dorada. 18 November 2022.
The Festa del Calamar de Salou, with 47 years of history, starts this Monday, November 21, 2022, the oldest competition held in the city of Salou. This party consists of the traditional fishing competition for this mollusc organized by the Salou town hall through the Cultural Services area and with the collaboration of the Salou Nautic Club.

This celebration brings together all the people who are fond of the world of fishing in the municipality. The start will take place at Club Nàutic de Salou from a quarter to three in the afternoon and until sunset. For another year, the ban on curry fishing remains in place.

The regulations established in the contest rules provide that at 6:45 p.m., six and forty-five of the afternoon, the time limit for submitting to the weight control will end. Following the tradition of this celebration, the start and end times of fishing time will be marked by the launch of a rocket. Remember that only squid fishing counts for the competition.

Next Sunday, November 27, at noon, the competition will end with the presentation of trophies. Afterwards, refreshments will be offered to all the people who have participated. This event will be held at the La Terrassa del Club Nàutic.

The prizes will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd, for the category of a single crew member; and 1st, 2nd and 3rd, for the category of more than one crew member. In addition, the trophy for the biggest squid will be awarded - by the Nautical Club - and another for the one who catches the most squid. This trophy is given by the Sociedad de pesca de Salou. A commemorative souvenir will also be given to the rest of the participants.

In relation to this contest, both the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, and the councilor for Cultural Services, Xavier Montalà, have emphasized that this contest highlights the maritime tradition of Salou, to the point that this is currently the most old town. They have also encouraged the families who participate in this competition year after year to go out again with their boats and enjoy the sea.
