Salou. Costa Dorada. 06 June 2021.
Until July 10, 2021, you can visit the Sonia Toneu exhibition “Territori (s)” at the Torre Vella in Salou. The sample presents some thirty works divided into 6 collections:
- Montserrat
- Primavera
- Kreuzberg (Berlin)
- DO1
- Ostsee's
- Billions
All the works are the result of the artist's research on geography, landscape, territory and the relationship with the body, to discover if the place where we are not located varies the perception of others and whether or not we are depending on where we live.
From abstraction, through painting, the hybridization of techniques and the use of digital media, Sonia Toneu starts from spaces (whether natural, rural and urban) as active elements, which participate in the regulation of our emotions and feelings.
From the direct introspection of the territory in Montserrat (Catalonia), Salou (Catalonia), Berlin (Germany), Rügen (Germany), Tampere (Finland) and Barcelona (Catalonia), the artist's research presents everything that the gaze produces of the tangible context, the social environment and the impressions of Toneu.
This interest in places, their relationship with emotions and with the stories of those who live, have lived and will live in a specific space has become the central interest of Sonia Toneu's artistic career. According to the author, she may have influenced her childhood in a farmhouse on the pre-coast of Tarragona, in a creative family environment between mountains, forests and vineyards.
In Barcelona she works in the fashion and advertising sector, which further influence her aesthetic and formal vision of art. After graduating from the Escola Massana, her passion and curiosity to explore different societies and customs led her to travel to different European countries, awakening in her the need to explore the concept of “place” that focuses her work. .
"Territori (s)" can be visited free of charge at the
Torre Vella every day, from Monday to Saturday, from 6 pm to 9 pm. On Sundays and holidays it is closed.
In the presentation of the exhibition, the mayor of Salou, Pere Granados, has been satisfied to host this exhibition of Sonia Toneu in the municipality, while the Councilor for Culture, Xavier Montalà, has highlighted the importance of bringing art closer to citizens of Salou.
